Liberian House of Representatives Observes Africa Day with a Message of Unity

The Speaker of 55th House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, along with Members of the Honorable House, has extended heartfelt greetings to Africans across the continent and in the diaspora in celebration of Africa Day 2025.

In a special message released on Monday, the House underscored the importance of Africa Day as a moment for deep reflection and renewed dedication to the ideals of unity, peace, development, and solidarity among African nations.

Africa Day, observed annually on May 25, commemorates the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, now known as the African Union (AU). The historic founding of the OAU marked a decisive step in Africa’s pursuit of self-determination and collective progress.

This year’s celebration is being held under the theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations”, a call that resonates strongly amid ongoing global conversations around historical injustices and equity.

The Liberian House of Representatives used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to regional integration, pan-African cooperation, and the promotion of democratic values, good governance, and sustainable development throughout the continent.

“May this year’s celebration inspire us all to continue building a more prosperous, inclusive, and peaceful Africa for generations to come,” the message concluded.
