Liberian Police Officers Graduate from Elite Counter-Terrorism Training in Rwanda

By Rufus Divine Brooks Jr

Kigali, Rwanda — Ten officers from the Liberia National Police (LNP) have graduated from a rigorous three-month intensive training program at Rwanda’s Counter Terrorism Training Center in Mayange, marking a significant step forward in strengthening regional security cooperation and counter-terrorism capabilities.

The specialized training, organized by the Rwanda National Police (RNP) and sponsored by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), equipped the Liberian officers with critical skills in areas such as Routine Staff Work, Map Reading, Intelligence Fundamentals, Internal Security Operations, Command and Control, Policing Laws, and advanced firearms training.

The program, attended by 177 participants from across the region, underscores a collaborative effort to enhance peace and security in Africa.

During the graduation ceremony at the training center, Liberian officers distinguished themselves as top performers.

CSP Varney Trokon Siaffa Jr. secured third place overall among all trainees and topped the Liberian delegation. Supt. Gbarzia Arkor Subah and ACP Mendin Larmin followed closely, earning second and third places, respectively, within their country’s cohort.

Their achievements highlight the dedication and talent of Liberia’s law enforcement professionals.

“This program is a testament to the LNP’s commitment to excellence and our readiness to build world-class capabilities in counter-terrorism and internal security,” said a senior LNP official.

“The skills and knowledge gained in Rwanda will directly enhance our capacity to address evolving security challenges and protect our communities.”

The partnership between RNP, UNITAR, and participating nations reflects the importance of regional cooperation in combating transnational threats.

RNP emphasized the training as a cornerstone of its mission to foster security collaboration across borders, while UNITAR reiterated its dedication to supporting law enforcement development through education and resource-sharing.

The Liberian officers are expected to deploy their newfound expertise to strengthen national security frameworks and contribute to regional stability.

As threats such as terrorism and organized crime continue to evolve, programs like these are critical in preparing police forces to respond effectively with professionalism and precision.
