Liberian Students in India Appeal to Gov’t for Immediate Repatriation amid India-Pakistan Conflict

Monrovia, Liberia- The Liberia International Students Solidarity Movement (LISSM) is appealing to the Liberian government for urgent repatriation of Liberian students currently studying in India, citing growing safety concerns due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

In a statement released on Sunday, LISSM Chairperson Henscin Dehgar sounded the alarm over the worsening regional conflict, saying it is putting the lives of Liberian students and citizens at risk.

“We are deeply concerned about the escalating crisis between India and Pakistan,” said Chairman Dehgar. “This conflict poses a serious threat to the safety and well-being of Liberians, particularly our students who are there in pursuit of higher education and better opportunities.”

According to the student organization, Liberians residing in India, primarily for education and economic reasons, have begun receiving death threats, raising fears of potential violence and instability.

The group fears the use of heavy weaponry by the two countries could also expose citizens to serious health risks.

Chairman Dehgar added, “Our students left Liberia to gain the knowledge and skills needed to build a better future for our country. Now, their lives are in danger. We call on our government to act swiftly before the situation deteriorates further.”

The students emphasized that Liberia’s lack of a diplomatic mission in India is complicating efforts to provide support and emergency evacuation. “We have no embassy in India to assist us in this critical moment,” Dehgar stressed. “That’s why the direct involvement of the Liberian government is not just important—it is urgent.”

LISSM Secretary General Zack Teto Tweh also echoed the call for national support. “This is a national issue that demands collective attention,” he said. “We’re appealing to all Liberians, both at home and abroad, to rally behind this cause and ensure our fellow citizens return home safely.”

Despite the growing tension, LISSM urged parents and loved ones not to panic. “We want to assure families that diplomatic efforts are underway to secure the safe return of their children,” Dehgar noted.

The Liberia International Students Solidarity Movement says it remains hopeful that the Liberian government will take decisive action to protect its citizens abroad and ensure their safe return home.
