Liberian Students Share Educational Journey at Sharda University

Monrovia, Liberia, In an atmosphere of cultural exchange and academic exploration, two Liberian scholars, Angel Davis and Dehyu Zangar, are making their mark at Sharda University, one of India’s premier international institutions. In an exclusive interview with Journalists Eddie D. David and Cooper K. Sangar Jr., the students shared their stories of growth, aspiration, and the transformative impact of higher education abroad.

Currently enrolled in Electrical Engineering, Dehyu Zangar described his academic journey as rigorous and rewarding. “It’s more than just circuits and systems—it’s about learning how to solve real-world problems,” he explained. Dehyu believes the knowledge he is acquiring will be instrumental in addressing Liberia’s infrastructural challenges, particularly in the energy sector.

Angel Davis, who is majoring in Psychology, echoed similar sentiments. “My time at Sharda has given me new perspectives on human behavior, emotional intelligence, and the importance of mental health,” she said. “Back home, there’s still a strong stigma surrounding mental illness. I want to be part of the generation that changes that narrative.”

Both students highlighted the multicultural environment at Sharda University as a vital part of their development. With classmates from over 95 countries, they described how interacting with peers from diverse backgrounds has enriched their understanding of global cultures. They helped them become more empathetic and globally minded individuals.

“Being here isn’t just about academics,” Angel noted. “It’s about personal growth. We’ve gained confidence, leadership skills, and a new appreciation for collaboration across cultures.”

The students also spoke highly of Sharda’s modern facilities, innovative teaching methods, and supportive academic staff. “The professors here are approachable and invested in our success,” said Dehyu. “They challenge us to think critically, not just memorize information.”

Despite being thousands of miles from home, both Angel and Dehyu remain deeply connected to Liberia. They expressed a strong commitment to returning home after their studies to apply what they’ve learned and help build a stronger nation.

“We’re ambassadors of Liberia here,” said Angel. “And we take that responsibility seriously.”

In a message to Liberian youth, the duo encouraged others to pursue international academic opportunities and remain steadfast in their dreams. “Education is a powerful tool,” Dehyu emphasized. “No matter where you come from, it can elevate your voice and expand your capacity to lead change.”

As more Liberians enroll in international universities, stories like Angel and Dehyu’s underscore the importance of global education in shaping a new generation of visionary leaders. Their experiences not only reflect personal achievement but also symbolize hope for Liberia’s future.
