Monrovia, Liberia – June 25, 2025: Liberia’s Chief Justice, Her Honor Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh, will mark her 70th birthday tomorrow, a milestone that also signals the end of her tenure on the Supreme Court Bench, in accordance with the nation’s constitutional age limit for justices.
Chief Justice Yuoh’s retirement paves the way for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to nominate a new Chief Justice to lead the nation’s highest court. Her departure comes after years of dedicated service within the judiciary, during which she became the second woman to hold the position of Chief Justice in Liberia’s history.
The impending nomination is expected to draw significant national attention, given the crucial role of the Chief Justice in upholding the rule of law and ensuring the independence of the judiciary.
Justice Yuoh has had a long and distinguished career in Liberia’s legal system, serving in various capacities prior to her appointment as Chief Justice in 2022 by then-President George M. Weah.
As the nation awaits President Boakai’s next move, legal analysts, political stakeholders, and civil society organizations are closely watching for a nominee who will not only maintain the integrity of the Supreme Court but also strengthen public confidence in Liberia’s justice system.
