‘Liberty Party, an Extension of UP’

By Archie Boan

The CMC Political Leader, Rep. Musa Bility, has taunted the Liberty Party as an extension of the ruling Unity Party. “It cannot speak for it anymore neither speaks against the Government.”

Representative Musa Hassan Bility, Political Leader of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), has launched a bold critique of his former political home, the Liberty Party, declaring it politically ineffective while positioning himself as Liberia’s most capable future president.

Speaking on Punch FM on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Bility did not mince words as he asserted his readiness to lead the country, citing what he described as unmatched experience, capacity, and mental stability.

“I am the best person to run this country, because I have the experience, capacity and mental stability to make the country great,” Bility stated confidently during the interview.

The lawmaker, who now heads the CMC, said his decision to part ways with the Liberty Party was driven by what he sees as the party’s loss of independence and political relevance.

According to him, the party has drifted from its original purpose and can no longer function as a credible opposition force.

“I left the Liberty Party and began considering a presidential bid because the party no longer serves as a driving political vehicle; it has effectively become an extension of the Unity Party. It cannot speak for it anymore, neither speaks against the Government,” he added.

Bility’s remarks are likely to deepen political tensions within opposition circles, particularly as the Liberty Party has historically positioned itself as a key alternative voice in Liberia’s democratic space.

His accusation that the party has aligned itself too closely with the ruling Unity Party could trigger sharp rebuttals from party loyalists and leadership. The CMC political leader has increasingly signaled presidential ambitions in recent months, using media appearances and public engagements to frame him as a reform-driven alternative capable of steering Liberia through its governance and economic challenges
