LINU Moniba Applauds Supreme Court Ruling, Demand Respect for Constitutional Order

Monrovia, Liberia–The political leader of the Liberian National Union Party (LINU), Dr. Clarence Moniba, has praised the Supreme Court of Liberia for what they call a “decisive, timely, and principled” intervention in the ongoing leadership crisis within the House of Representatives.

In a strongly worded statement released Tuesday, LINU called for full compliance with the Court’s ruling and urged all political actors to respect the Constitution and due process.

The decision of the Supreme Court to legitimize Koffa’s speakership has drawn national attention.

Dr. Moniba contends that the ruling is not merely a legal resolution but a reaffirmation of constitutional governance at a critical juncture for Liberia’s democracy.

“This is not just about procedure—it’s about principle,” said Dr. Moniba. “Liberia’s institutions must be protected from actions that threaten the foundation of our democracy. We cannot allow the rule of law to be circumvented in favor of political power plays.”

LINU’s statement singled out Representative Richard Koon and his allies, warning that any effort to challenge or ignore Article 49 of the Constitution—governing the procedures for electing House leadership—would only deepen the crisis. The party emphasized that disregard for legal norms risks triggering “constitutional chaos” at a time when Liberia needs political stability and trust in its institutions.

Dr. Moniba also evoked Article 66 of the Constitution, which grants the Supreme Court final jurisdiction over constitutional matters, stating that no official or political group is above the law.

LINU is calling on all public officials and citizens to rise above personal and partisan interests and uphold the principles of accountability and rule of law.
The party emphasized that the judiciary’s independence must be “safeguarded at all costs” and that true leadership is shown through respect for legal processes, not defiance of them.

As Liberia navigates its democratic path, Moniba and LINU have reiterated their commitment to defending justice and constitutional order. “The future of our Republic depends on it,” the statement concluded.

The leadership tussle in the House remains unresolved, but with pressure mounting from civil society, political parties, and now the judiciary, observers say the coming days will be crucial for the country’s democratic integrity.
