The president of the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA), Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, has formally resigned to fully assume his role as Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Law Reform Commission (LRC).
Cllr. Varmah, commissioned to the nation’s premier legal reform body on January 20, 2025, and assuming leadership on January 23, 2025, emphasized that the Commission’s responsibilities demand undivided attention, strategic focus, and sustained institutional leadership.
“I hereby formally fulfill the declaration I made at our National Convention in Ganta, Nimba County, on December 6, 2025,” Cllr. Varmah said in his resignation statement released Tuesday from LNBA Headquarters on Ashmun Street, Monrovia.
According to Cllr. Varmah, the work of the Law Reform Commission (LRC) is crucial as such, he has to let go of the LNBA presidency and focus more on his new role.
“The work of the Law Reform Commission is crucial at this stage of Liberia’s legal and governance development, and it requires my full concentration and impartial stewardship,” added.
During his tenure as the 18th National President of the LNBA, Varmah led the association through significant professional engagements and institutional strengthening initiatives.
His leadership was recognized for advancing professional integrity and reinforcing the rule of law.
“I remain a proud member of the LNBA,” Varmah added. “This decision is not one of separation from the Bar in spirit, but rather a reaffirmation of my enduring commitment to the rule of law and the advancement of our justice system, now through a different national mandate.”
Varmah extended his gratitude to the Bar’s National Executive Council, county bar associations, and the broader legal community for their confidence and support during his tenure.
The Executive Committee of the LNBA and the entire membership have lauded his commitment to justice and governance, expressing confidence that his leadership at the Law Reform Commission will further Liberia’s legal modernization and legislative reform efforts.
“The collective strides we have made together will remain a source of pride. May the Liberian National Bar Association continue to stand as the guardian of professional integrity, defender of constitutional order, and champion of justice,” Varmah concluded.”
The LNBA is expected to initiate its succession process in the coming weeks, in accordance with its constitution and by-laws.
