The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) has announced that its 2025 Annual National Convention will be held in Ganta City, Nimba County, from December 4–7, 2025.
This year’s gathering, one of the most significant on the Bar’s calendar, will take place at the Wuo Garbe Tarppia Intellectual Hall, Peace Empire Hotel.
The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, December 5 at 10:30 a.m., under the theme: “Strengthening the Rule of Law: The Lawyer’s Role in Restoring Public Trust.” LNBA National President, Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, is expected to preside over the proceedings, which aim to reinforce the legal profession’s role in enhancing justice delivery and rebuilding public confidence in Liberia’s justice system.
In a bid to recognize excellence within the judiciary, the LNBA will honor judges who have demonstrated outstanding performance by disposing of a significant number of cases during 2025—an achievement the Bar says has contributed meaningfully to improving trust in the judiciary.
This year’s keynote address will be delivered by Cllr. Mark M. Marvay, Managing Partner at Beyond Law Chambers and former member of the LNBA National Executive Council. His presence is expected to provide strategic insight into the profession’s evolving responsibilities.
A major highlight of the Convention is the mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program, which offers the required ten CLE credit hours for the 2025 professional year.
The sessions will focus heavily on Liberia’s transition from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to the newly enacted Value-Added Tax (VAT) Law of 2024.
Led by the Liberia Revenue Authority’s legal team, the CLE presentations will cover:
An introduction to the Value-Added Tax Law of 2024, which replaces the GST and outlines new compliance regulations under MFDP Regulation No. 136.
Procedures for implementing the VAT Law, including amendments to Chapter 10 of the Revenue Code of 2000.
A review of the Rules of Court, based on recommendations from a Supreme Court–appointed committee.
Beyond the formal discussions, the Convention will feature its traditional social events, including a parade and sports activities scheduled for Saturday, December 6, aimed at fostering camaraderie among members of the Bar.
Meanwhile, the LNBA has announced the completion of the ground floor of its National Headquarters, located along the Roberts International Airport highway. A full progress report on the project will be presented during the Convention.
The leadership praised members and supporters whose contributions have made the project’s advancement possible.
The LNBA emphasized that the National Convention remains its highest decision-making body, serving as a platform for dialogue intended to strengthen Liberia’s rule of the law sector.
Members are therefore encouraged to participate in a professional and collaborative atmosphere.
