Monrovia, Liberia – Armed officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) have barricaded the residence of Representative Frank Saah Foko of District #9, a key member of the Pro-Koffa Bloc, in connection with Thursday’s fire at the Capitol Building.
The incident comes hours after the fire, which caused significant damage, with many linking it to a controversial statement by Rep. Foko, who reportedly said, “We will burn the session,” during a heated dispute with the Majority Bloc.
Rep. Foko, a vocal supporter of embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, has been at the forefront of challenging the constitutionality of Koffa’s removal. His remarks have raised suspicions of his alleged involvement in the Capitol Building fire, which occurred amid escalating tensions between the Majority Bloc and the Pro-Koffa faction.
While the LNP has yet to make an arrest, officers have surrounded the lawmaker’s home as part of their investigation. According to reports, police are actively searching for Rep. Foko, though no formal charges have been announced.
The fire at the Capitol Building has heightened political tensions in the country, with calls for accountability and a thorough investigation into its cause. Rep. Foko’s earlier comments, perceived as a direct threat, have placed him at the center of public and political scrutiny.
