LNP Concludes Investigation into Unlawful Vehicle Entry

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has concluded its investigation into the unlawful entry and opening of a gray Nissan Jeep, which was parked under the canopy of the Representative’s Wing at the Capitol Building on the morning of Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

According to a statement released by the LNP on Monday, March 24, 2025, the investigation, led by the Professional Standards Division (PSD), identified violations of police conduct.

Chief Inspector of Police Frank P. Banda, identified by his ID number 5396, has been suspended without pay for a period of two months after unlawfully entering the vehicle. Sergeant Sam C.F. Karbah, with ID number 4248, was also found guilty of unlawfully opening the vehicle and has been suspended for one month without pay.

The investigation was initiated following a complaint from Honorable Yekeh Y. Kolubah, who reported the theft of US$25,000, 2,000,000 Liberian dollars, a computer, an iPhone, and jewelry valued at US$2,500 from the vehicle. These items were allegedly stolen after the vehicle was accessed by police officers under unclear circumstances.

The PSD investigation recommends further actions if any link between the officers and the alleged theft is established. Should such connections be found, the officers involved will be referred to the Crimes Services Division for additional investigation. The LNP has also called for the questioning of Jack Traore, identified as the individual who drilled the vehicle’s right-side door. Additionally, authorities are set to follow up on video footage from the scene, with plans to investigate individuals seen in the recordings to determine any involvement in the crime.

The Liberia National Police emphasized its commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and professional integrity within its operations. The LNP expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and understanding as it continues to investigate the matter thoroughly.
