LNP Launches Road Safety Campaign for Cyclists and Drivers Ahead in River Gee

By Ben T.C. Brooks

River Gee County – [July 22, 2025] – In preparation for Liberia’s Independence Day celebrations on July 26, the River Gee Detachment of the Liberia National Police has kicked off a week-long road safety enforcement campaign aimed at enhancing traffic management and reducing accidents in Fish-Town, the county capital.

Assistant Commissioner of Police of River Gee County, Theophilus Toe Togba, issued a formal warning to motorbike riders and vehicle operators, advising them not to park on the main street of the city.

ACP Togba noted that the ongoing issue of parking along the main roadway has become a significant traffic problem, leading to congestion and a rise in accidents.

The main street is not meant for parking. This practice creates unnecessary disorder and puts lives at risk”. Togba emphasized during a Community engagement event.

He also called on all road users to adhere to traffic laws and support police efforts in promoting public safety.

The police have announced that they will keep a close watch on the situation and may enforce penalties against those who violate parking regulations in order to restore order and safeguard commuters in Fish-Town.

River Gee County’s capital, Fish-Town, currently lacks designated parking facilities for both vehicles and motorcycles, raising concerns about where these can be parked during this Independence week.

This year, Liberia will celebrate its 178th Independence Day, an event expected to take place across the country.
