Cestos, Rivercess County – A Liberia National Police (LNP) officer, only identified as Officer Remeo, has been accused of raping a 17-year-old female suspect while she was being held in police custody at the LNP headquarters in Cestos. The alleged assault occurred on Friday, June 6, 2025.
According to Rivercess County Attorney Martin M. Tumoe, the teenager alleged raped had been detained in a withholding cell, awaiting court proceedings related to a drug charge, when the alleged incident took place.
Speaking to Verity News Rivercess Correspondent, Attorney Tumoe confirmed that Officer Remeo has been arrested and placed under detention as the investigation continues. The probe is being handled by the LNP’s Professional Standards Division and the Child and Social Protection Unit.
In response to community concerns about the accused officer being removed from River Cess, Tumoe explained that Remeo was transferred to Grand Bassa County for what he described as a “more intensive investigation” under the supervision of the LNP’s regional office.
“Remeo will be returned to Rivercess County and will face prosecution,” Tumoe assured the public. “We ask the citizens to be patient as we allow the legal process to take its full course.”
Attorney Tumoe also confirmed that a medical examination has been conducted on the survivor. However, he declined to provide details of the findings, citing the sensitive and ongoing nature of the investigation.
The case has sparked outrage among residents, with many calling for swift and transparent justice. The accusation has also raised broader concerns about the treatment of detainees in police custody and the integrity of law enforcement officers in the county.
As investigations continue, the public and rights groups are watching closely to ensure that justice is not delayed or denied.
