The Liberia National Police (LNP) has reported a total of 478 road traffic accidents nationwide during the first quarter of 2026, resulting in 71 deaths and 309 injuries.
The figures, covering the period from January to March, highlight ongoing road safety challenges across Liberia, with authorities calling for stricter adherence to traffic regulations.
According to the police report, March recorded the highest number of incidents, with 186 cases, as well as the largest share of fatalities and injuries during the three-month period.
The report indicates that car-to-car collisions were the most common type of accident, followed by motorcycle-related incidents, with the two categories accounting for nearly 70 percent of all recorded cases.
Geographically, Montserrado County recorded the highest number of accidents at 279 cases, significantly outpacing other counties. It was followed by Nimba County, River Gee County, and Margibi County.
The report further revealed that vehicle operators were the most affected group, while males accounted for the majority of casualties.
“A total of 478 road traffic accidents were recorded across the country between January and March 2026, resulting in 71 deaths and 309 injuries,” the report noted.
The police are urging all road users, include drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians, to exercise caution and comply with traffic laws.
The LNP emphasized its continued commitment to improving road safety nationwide, noting that enforcement measures and public awareness efforts will be intensified to help reduce traffic-related incidents.
