Cestos City, River Cess County – In a bid to address the growing menace of over-speeding within Cestos City, the Traffic Division of the Liberia National Police (LNP) Rivercess Detachment, has announced a robust plan to enforce traffic regulations across the county.
The move comes amid rising concerns over the frequent disregard for speed limits by motorists, which police authorities say continues to endanger the lives of pedestrians, especially school-going children.
Speaking to reporters in Cestos City on Friday, the head of the Traffic Division of the LNP Rivercess Detachment, Amos Bandin Tokpaquoi, noted that motorcyclists are the primary violators of traffic laws in the city. According to him, cyclists often ignore designated public safety zones, including schools, hospitals, churches, and busy marketplaces, posing serious threats to residents.
“We have observed that motorcyclists drive carelessly and speed even when approaching places that require caution,” Tokpaquoi lamented. “This is unacceptable, and we must act now to protect the lives of our people.”
To address the situation, Tokpaquoi disclosed that the LNP will soon erect speed breakers at strategic points and establish checkpoints to monitor and control traffic flow within the city. The initiative, he said, will help curb reckless riding and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
He further revealed that the proposed measures have already been communicated to County Attorney Martin M. Tumoe and other county authorities, who have given their full endorsement for the enforcement action.
“The LNP’s responsibility is to protect lives and property, and these measures are in line with our mandate,” Tokpaquoi stressed. “We call on all motorcyclists and motorists to abide by traffic rules for the safety of everyone.”
Residents of Cestos City have welcomed the announcement, describing it as timely in addressing the increasing rate of road accidents and injuries in the county. Some citizens, however, urged the LNP to ensure that the enforcement is done fairly and consistently to achieve the desired results.
