The Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) has announced the launch of a nationwide Registration, Inspection, Classification, and Star Rating Exercise for tourism, culture, and creative enterprises. The initiative will begin in Montserrado County and run from April 7 to May 8, 2026.
According to an official LNTA statement, the exercise is “undertaken in line with the LNTA Act of 2025 and aligned with ECOWAS Tourism Accommodation Standards, with the objective of strengthening compliance, improving service quality, enhancing safety standards, and promoting professionalism across Liberia’s tourism sector.”
Authorized LNTA Inspectorate Teams will conduct comprehensive inspections, including verification of registration and licensing, assessment of sanitation, safety, environmental, and operational standards, and evaluation of customer service through spot checks. Accommodation establishments will also be classified and assigned official star ratings from 1-Star to 5-Star, based on national and regional criteria.
The LNTA emphasized the importance of compliance, stating: “All operators are required to ensure that their establishments are properly registered and licensed, maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and customer service, and cooperate fully with authorized LNTA Inspectors throughout the exercise.”
The Authority also warned against unauthorized ratings: “The LNTA remains the only legally mandated authority responsible for assigning official star ratings and installing classification signage. The use or display of unauthorized ratings, as well as non-compliance with regulatory requirements, is strictly prohibited and may result in appropriate enforcement actions.”
The LNTA officials say the initiative aims to enhance credibility, strengthen consumer protection, improve service standards, and boost investor confidence in Liberia’s tourism sector. The public is urged to patronize only registered, licensed, and officially recognized establishments.

“This exercise is of national importance, as it will build a safe, vibrant, and globally competitive Tourism, Culture, and Creative Industry in Liberia,” the LNTA concluded.
