In a stunning turn of events, a major logging company has vanished from Konobo District, leaving behind more than 550 logs, a break of contract, and an angry community.
Tensions are rising in Boundary Town after Horizons Logging Company abruptly ceased operations and disappeared without warning just one year into a five-year contract that was expected to transform the local community.
Speaking to Verity News over the Weekend, Town Chief Ophelia B. Gbayou described the company’s departure as a betrayal of community trust. She revealed that despite promises of development and profit-sharing, Horizons Logging delivered almost nothing except for one single toilet and a hand pump.
“They came, cut down our trees, and gave us no benefit,” Chief Gbayou stated. “Then they quietly returned to take their machines after we gave them permission leaving our forest damaged and over 550 logs behind.”
The original agreement, reportedly designed to be extended to 25 years, was expected to bring lasting impact but instead, residents say they feel used and abandoned.
Now, community leaders are demanding a full investigation, calling on county and national authorities to hold Horizons Logging accountable for damages.
