LPP Youth League Denounces Corruption Allegations Against Party Leaders, Disowns Signatories

Monrovia, Liberia – August 7, 2025 – The Youth League of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP) has issued a sharp rebuttal to a controversial statement accusing its political leader Cllr. Taiwan Gongloe and vice political leader Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawol of corruption, mismanagement and patronage; dismissing it as false and unauthorized.

In a press release issued Thursday, the LPP Youth League described the statement, purportedly signed by individuals identified as Robert R. Wherboe and Abraham Konneh, as a “fabricated innuendo” and strongly denied any link to the content or its authors.

According to the Youth League, its internal records confirm that Robert Wherboe has never been a member of the LPP, while Abraham Konneh was expelled from the party more than two years ago due to conduct deemed inconsistent with the party’s values.

The LPP Youth League categorically refutes and distances itself from the purported statement,” the release said. “Any statements circulating in the media claiming to represent the LPP Youth League are both malicious and concocted.”

The group further accused unnamed political actors of sponsoring individuals to tarnish the reputation of the LPP and its leadership.

“These individuals do not belong to our organization; they are mere opportunists who are being driven by unscrupulous politicians,” the statement alleged.

The LPP Youth League warned those behind what it called a “scheme” to immediately stop spreading misinformation, threatening “unspecified actions” if the false narratives continue. It also cautioned the public against engaging with anyone posing as representatives of the Youth League, emphasizing that such actions would be at their own risk.

The statement was signed by Kahlmon N. Konai, Acting Secretary General of the LPP Youth League, and approved by Mohammed Deygbo, Acting Chairman of the Youth League.

The clarification comes a day after a previous statement, allegedly issued in the name of the LPP Youth League, gained traction on social media and in the press, raising concerns about internal divisions within the party.

As the 2025 political season continues to heat up, the LPP says it remains focused on promoting principled leadership and cautions against what it sees as a growing trend of political misinformation aimed at discrediting opposition voices
