In public service, some of the most important work happens quietly—far from the spotlight but with far-reaching impact.
At the Liberia Revenue Authority, one such professional is S. Keith Nyankun Sr., whose analytical skill and dedication to duty has helped to uncover millions of dollars in recoverable government revenue.
During this year’s International Customs Day celebration in Ganta, Nimba County, the LRA honored several exceptional customs officers.
Among them was Mr. Nyankun, whose commitment to excellence continues to strengthen the work of the Department of Customs.
Since joining the LRA in 2016, Mr. Nyankun has built a distinguished career within the Department of Customs.
He rose from Auditor to Audit Team Lead, later serving as Audit Focal Person (Customs) in joint audits with the Large Tax Division. He currently serves as Acting Audit Supervisor in the Post Clearance Audit Unit, where technical precision and analytical depth are essential.
Beyond his operational role, he brings a strong academic and international foundation to his work. He serves as a lecturer in Cost and Managerial Accounting at the University of Liberia and previously gained international experience as a Cost and Program Controller in the Netherlands, where he also earned an MSc in Accountancy from Tilburg University.
Most notably, when appointed Technical Focal Person to lead a comprehensive review of investment incentive holders in the manufacturing sector, his team uncovered significant non-compliance and identified approximately US$50 million in recoverable revenue. The findings have reinforced revenue protection efforts and positioned the LRA to pursue the appropriate administrative actions where necessary.
