LSEZA, USAID End Two-Day Workshop on Domestic and Foreign Investment

The Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority (LSEZA), in collaboration with USAID/Liberia, has concluded a two-day Stakeholder Engagement Workshop to enhance partnerships and promote domestic and foreign direct investment.

The event, which took place in Monrovia, brought together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, along with representatives from various donor organizations, to discuss strategies for fostering Liberia’s economic growth.

The workshop, which focused on building stakeholder consensus, sought to align efforts to advance Liberia’s Special Economic Zones (SEZ) initiatives, which play a critical role in the country’s development agenda.

Key goals of the workshop included forming a dedicated technical working group to drive forward the strategic goals of the SEZs and establishing a Secretariat that will include representatives from government, donors, and the private sector.

Speaking at the workshop’s opening, the Executive Chairperson of the LSEZA, Prince Wreh, emphasized that collaboration between local stakeholders, international donors, and private investors is crucial to unlocking Liberia’s full economic potential.

Wreh said that by strengthening these partnerships, Liberia aims to attract more investment, boost job creation, and enhance the country’s business climate.

“Creating an effective technical working group and a dedicated Secretariat will be the foundation for facilitating strategic decisions and long-term planning for Liberia’s Special Economic Zones,” Wreh emphasized.

The LSEZA executive Chairperson highlighted that the workshop is a step towards building a cohesive, collaborative approach that will maximize the benefits of SEZs for Liberia’s economy.

“This workshop is a step towards building a cohesive, collaborative approach that will maximize the benefits of SEZs for Liberia’s economy,” he added.

The workshop also provided a platform for participants to share insights, discuss challenges, and explore opportunities for further SEZ development. These are expected to play a vital role in diversifying Liberia’s economy and boosting manufacturing, agriculture, and services.

The initiative aims to attract local and international investments by engaging stakeholders from various sectors, creating new economic opportunities for Liberians, and fostering sustainable growth in the years ahead.

The LSEZA and USAID’s continued collaboration signals a solid commitment to building a more resilient and diversified economy for Liberia.
