Liberia has reaffirmed its dedication to regional cooperation and telecommunications reform, according to Hon. Clarence Kortu Massaquoi, Chair of the LTA.
Chairperson Massaquoi expressed gratitude to the WATRA team for their collaboration, noting that their support contributed to a successful and well-coordinated visit.
He stressed that strengthening regional and international partnerships is vital for enhancing Liberia’s global profile through participation in workshops, seminars, and regulatory forums.
Highlighting Liberia’s renewed focus on the timely payment of international dues, Massaquoi commended WATRA for hosting the Technical Meeting and related benchmark visits, which are integral to ongoing sector reforms.
Massaquoi emphasized that LTA is prioritizing the adoption of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), satellite connectivity, and expanded rural broadband, to promote inclusive digital development nationwide.
The Chair underscored the urgent need to modernize Liberia’s telecommunications regulatory framework, noting that some regulations are over a decade old and require updates to reflect current market and technological realities.
Describing WATRA as a critical platform connecting Liberia with regional and global regulators, Massaquoi called for continued support in areas such as introductions to Towerco operators and the adoption of proven regulatory models like IMEI management systems, successfully implemented in other countries.
He stressed that Liberia intends to learn from best practices rather than reinvent the wheel.
Massaquoi concluded by reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to working closely with WATRA to strengthen regulatory capacity, encourage innovation, and improve telecommunications services across the West African sub-region.
