The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) and the World Bank, have officially launched an emergency water connection project to expand access to safe drinking water for 2,500 new households in Greater Monrovia.

The initiative targets key communities in Montserrado County, including Bushrod Island, Central Monrovia, Southern Paynesville, and Omega, providing thousands of residents with a more reliable water supply.

This emergency project is part of the broader six-year Government of Liberia–World Bank partnership known as the Liberia Urban Resilience Project (LURP). LURP aims to improve urban planning and enhance flood and climate resilience through infrastructure development, capacity building, and better access to essential services.

With a budget of $1,486,887.50, the project is being constructed by Tengda Construction Ltd., a reputable firm specializing in water and sewer infrastructure.

At the launch event, Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Public Works, Samuka Dunnoh, described the water connection initiative as a tangible expression of LURP’s goals. He emphasized its significance in improving living conditions and strengthening community resilience.

Meanwhile, LWSC Director General Mohammed Ali underscored the rising demand for water services and urged residents to pay their bills promptly to ensure the continued and sustainable delivery of water.

This project not only brings water closer to homes but also marks a significant step in our commitment to provide safe, affordable, and reliable water to the people of Liberia,” Director General Ali said.

The emergency water connection project is expected to significantly improve access to clean water in the targeted areas, contributing to better public health and an enhanced quality of life for thousands of Liberians.
