First LNP Female Spokesperson Appointed After 68 Years

The Liberian National Police (LNP) has made history by appointing its first female police spokesperson after 68 years of its establishment.

In a groundbreaking announcement made on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman introduced Madam Cecelia Clark as the new director of press and public affairs.

Alongside Madam Clark, Blessing Myres was appointed as the deputy for Media Affairs, marking another significant step towards gender inclusivity within the LNP.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the role, Madam Clark pledged to uphold transparency and foster trust between the police force and the public.

With a background in journalism and extensive experience in media relations, including serving as the President of the Reporter’s Association of Liberia, Madam Clark is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of her new position.

Having graduated from the Liberian National Police Training Academy with top honors and currently pursuing a law degree, Madam Clark brings a unique blend of expertise to her role as spokesperson.

Inspector General Coleman emphasized the importance of effective communication in addressing the misinformation campaigns targeting the government and the LNP.

He assured that the new press and public affairs team would be guided by both internal expertise and external consultants to enhance communication strategies.

In her acceptance speech, Madam Clark expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in her new capacity and acknowledged the responsibility bestowed upon her.

She thanked the LNP leadership for their trust and assured her commitment to upholding the integrity of the police force.

As part of the restructuring, former Press and Public Affairs Director Moses Carter has been redeployed to another role within the National Police Headquarters, marking a transition towards a more diverse and dynamic communication team within the LNP.

The appointment of Madam Cecelia Clark as the first female spokesperson in the LNP’s history signifies a significant milestone towards gender equality and diversity within Liberia’s law enforcement agency.

It does not only reflects the progressive strides being made in the country but also sets a positive precedent for future generations of female leaders in law enforcement.
