Majority Bloc Receives 2025 Draft National Budget from Executive

Despite ongoing divisions within the House of Representatives, the Executive Branch, through the Office of the Chief Clerk, has submitted the 2025 Draft National Budget to the Majority Bloc.

The Majority Bloc, which has been persistently working to remove House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa over allegations of corruption and conflicts of interest, now holds more than 40 members, making it difficult for the Pro-Koffa Bloc to conduct business. Currently, the Pro-Koffa Bloc has fewer than 37 lawmakers, obstructing their ability to meet quorum and hold sessions.

The political infighting has caused delays in submitting the 2025 Draft National Budget, with the submission being postponed twice. On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the Majority Bloc, led by Representative Samuel Kogar, confirmed that they had received the budget from the Executive.

Rep. Kogar stated that the submission empowers the Majority Bloc to begin deliberations on the proposed fiscal plan. He added that the budget was officially submitted to the committee room for further review and scrutiny.

“We have the budget, and we will be debating it. It will be submitted to the committee room today,” Rep. Kogar affirmed during an interview on the OK Morning Rush, emphasizing the House’s commitment to ensuring the budget aligns with Liberia’s national priorities.
