Mano River Union Youth Parliament-Liberia Chapter Urges Peaceful Protest Ahead of July 17 Demonstration

Monrovia, Liberia – As citizens of Liberia, through the Solidarity and Trust for New Day (STAND), prepare to exercise their constitutional right to protest on Thursday, July 17, 2025, the Mano River Union Youth Parliament-Liberia Chapter (MRUYP-LC) has issued a statement emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and order during the demonstration.

In a statement released on the union’s Facebook Page, the MRUYP-LC highlighted Article 17 of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia, which guarantees all citizens the right to peacefully assemble and express their grievances to the government. This principle, they assert, is a critical component of democracy and civic engagement.

The parliament called on all participants to conduct themselves in a peaceful, lawful, and disciplined manner, asserting that the success and integrity of the protest hinge on maintaining order and respect for both fellow demonstrators and the general public. “While raising your voices for justice, accountability, and reform, we urge all participants to be mindful of the movement of other peaceful citizens who may not be part of the protest,” they stated.

The MRUYP-LC also emphasized the importance of ensuring that the demonstration does not infringe upon the rights of other community members. They reiterated the collective responsibility of citizens to maintain peace during such events.

Moreover, the organization appealed to the Liberia National Police and other relevant state authorities to provide adequate protection and create a safe environment for all protesters. They stressed that the security forces’ presence must exemplify impartiality, professionalism, and a commitment to upholding the rule of law.

In conclusion, MRUYP-LC reiterated the message of collective responsibility, urging all citizens to help maintain peace during the upcoming protests.

This call for peace comes amid heightened tensions in Liberia, as citizens look for avenues to express their demands for justice and reform. The MRUYP-LC’s emphasis on peaceful conduct reflects a broader commitment to democratic values and civil rights in Liberia.
