Margibi PhD Student in the U.S. Donates Academic Books to Margibi University

A Margibi-born scholar studying in the United States has made a meaningful contribution to higher education in his home county. Mr. Foday Zinnah, a PhD candidate at Utah State University, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, donated a collection of engineering and geo-science textbooks to Margibi University in Harbel, Margibi County. The donation, which consisted of a suitcase containing 14 textbooks, is expected to enhance teaching, learning, and research within the College of Engineering and Geo-Sciences.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Zinnah said the gesture was inspired by the academic challenges he observed among Liberian students, particularly the limited access to standard research materials. According to him, the lack of essential textbooks often hinders students’ academic performance and research capacity. He expressed hope that the donated materials would help bridge this gap and provide students with the resources they need to excel.

Receiving the items on behalf of the University’s President, Prof. Dr. Edison D. Padjebo, the Vice President for Academic Affairs described the donation as timely and deeply appreciated. He emphasized that such acts of generosity play a crucial role in strengthening the institution’s academic foundation. Dr. Padjebo used the occasion to call on other Margibians and well-meaning Liberians in the diaspora to emulate Mr. Zinnah’s example by supporting educational initiatives back home.

The Vice President reaffirmed the University’s commitment to building partnerships with local and international institutions to improve the quality of education and services provided at Margibi University. He stressed that collaborative efforts are essential to ensuring that students receive a competitive and globally relevant education. Dr. Padjebo also encouraged Liberians studying abroad to consider returning home after completing their education to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development, particularly in the educational sector.

Meanwhile, the Students Council Government, through its Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Sandolo, also expressed gratitude for the donation. Sandolo praised Mr. Zinnah for his thoughtful contribution and urged the engineering department to take full advantage of the materials, describing them as a much-needed boost to the department’s academic resources.

The donation marks a significant step toward improving access to academic materials at Margibi University and serves as a reminder of the vital role diaspora Liberians can play in strengthening the nation’s educational institutions.
