Verity News has uncovered that MedTech , a company entangled by controversy has begun operations after court halted it’s operation without public notice.
As we continue our investigation, this media outlet cannot however independently verify reasons behind Medtech resumption of operation, whether or not the court has lifted the company’s suspension.
It is somehow being rumored that the company is refusing to publicly announce resumption of it’s operation to avoid public outcry.
Unlike Western Cluster Liberia whose road user permit suspension was lifted with a public notice, the case of Medtech Scientific is yet to be seen, a situation that has the propensity to deepen public outcry.
“We saw western clusters and Chinese union when their bans were lifted temporarily”, an insider who chose to be unnamed told Verity News.
Medtech reportedly resumed operations in the Wake of allegation of purchasing of a USD$ 100K vehicle for the Commerce Minister Amin Modad, something that has sparked outrage and controversy.
It can be recalled that in August of this year, the Justice in Chambers, His Honor Yusif D Kaba, halted Medtech Scientific Inspection Services (MTS) Ltd operations.
Justice Kaba’s decision was triggered by a writ of prohibition filed against the MTS Inspection Services according to a document retrieved by Verity News.
A release Issued by MTS on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, stated that the company is suspending its operations based on a writ of Prohibition filed against them with the Supreme Court Justice in chambers Kaba.
The release quoted MTS as saying “they are constrained to announce the suspension of its operations along with closure of its offices effective immediately until further notice.”
Recently, The Senate had a joint committee to investigate the contract worth $18 million that was signed between MedTech Scientific and the Liberian Government.
This led to two separate communications from the Senate joint committee on Public Accounts and Commerce and Industry.
The communications, dated April 16, 2024, signed by Senators Amara Konneh, Alex Tyler, Dabah Varpilah, Jonathan Sogbie, Edwin Snowe, Nathaniel McGill, Crayton Duncan, Abraham Darius Dillion, and Albert Chie of Gbarpolu, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Rivergee, Margibi, Sinoe, Montserrado and Grand Kru Respectively, claimed that MedTech has refrained from providing essential documentations for the period of July 2021 to November 2022.
