Meet Dr. John Yarngrorble – The Visionary Leading the Sinoe County Health Team

By Preston Slami Panyonnoh

From the corridors of the Ministry of Health to the heart of rural Liberia, Dr. John Yarngrorble has emerged as a transformational figure in public health. As the current County Health Officer (CHO) of Sinoe County, his leadership is not only reshaping healthcare delivery but also reigniting hope in communities long underserved.

With a solid background of service and experience at the national level, Dr. Yarngrorble was appointed to lead the Sinoe County Health Team after years of demonstrating dedication, competence, and passion. Since assuming office, his trailblazing efforts have brought about measurable change across the county’s health system.

One of his earliest and most impactful interventions was securing solar energy systems to provide round-the-clock electricity at the F.J. Grante Hospital and the County Health Office. This has drastically reduced the financial burden on patients’ families, who once had to provide fuel for surgeries and oxygen usage. Today, the hospital saves nearly 70% of its annual fuel allocation—a groundbreaking achievement in rural healthcare sustainability.

Under Dr. Yarngrorble’s leadership, renovation projects have kicked off at multiple health facilities, enhancing both structural quality and service delivery. Notable projects include:

F.J. Grante Hospital: Renovation of various wards and ongoing expansion to accommodate more patients.

Oxygen Plant Installation: Enabling local oxygen production for emergencies and surgeries.

Modern Medical Equipment: Installation of an X-ray machine, CBC (Complete Blood Count) machine, and a Chemistry Analyzer, elevating the hospital’s diagnostic capacity.

The county now boasts giant-size incinerators installed in Togbaville, Butaw, Diankpo, and Juarzon, enhancing infection prevention and control. In addition, a modern incinerator—generously donated by UNICEF—has been installed at F.J. Grante Hospital, helping to manage biomedical waste more effectively and safely.

Dr. Yarngrorble prioritized staffing and mobility, knowing that human capital and outreach are vital to success in public health:

All 36 health facilities in Sinoe County now have a minimum of two professional healthcare workers, vastly improving patient care and service delivery.

Every clinic has been equipped with brand new Yamaha AG 125 motorcycles, ensuring that healthcare workers can reach even the most remote communities.

Community Health Services Supervisors (CHSSs), all qualified professionals, have also received motorcycles to facilitate regular supervision and outreach.

Looking ahead, Dr. Yarngrorble’s strategic vision continues to unfold with major construction works scheduled in several underserved communities:

Panama Clinic

Tuzon Clinic

Lexington Clinic

These projects are aimed at closing the healthcare access gap and bringing services closer to the people.

Beyond infrastructure and equipment, Dr. Yarngrorble has fostered a unified, motivated, and skilled workforce. Under his leadership, the Sinoe County Health Team has experienced unprecedented levels of collaboration, training, and morale-building, making the system not only stronger but more resilient.

What sets Dr. John Yarngrorble apart is his deep commitment to people-centered healthcare. His leadership style is marked by results, innovation, and compassion—qualities that have made him a pillar of progress in Sinoe County’s healthcare system.

As a reporter based in Greenville, I’ve witnessed firsthand how his policies are turning challenges into success stories. Dr. Yarngrorble is not just leading a health team; he is building a legacy of health equity, dignity, and hope for the people of Sinoe County.
