Merged Federation of Motorcyclists and Tricyclists Disassociates from Protest, Reaffirms Commitment to Dialogue and Peace

The Merged Federation of Motorcycle and Tricycle Union of Liberia (M-FOMTUL) has issued a public statement distancing itself from a planned protest organized by a group known as STANDS.

In the release, M-FOMTUL firmly disavowed any involvement in the protest and emphasized that the union remains apolitical and committed to maintaining peace. The leadership called on all its members across Liberia to refrain from participating in the demonstration, reiterating that the union’s mission is centered on constructive engagement rather than confrontation.

“M-FOMTUL believes in dialogue as a tool for progress,” the statement read. “We continue to engage with the Liberian government to improve the welfare of our members and the transport sector as a whole.”

The union also warned against the unauthorized use of its name or image to promote the protest or any related political activity, saying it reserves the right to take appropriate action against individuals or groups who misrepresent its position.

In closing, M-FOMTUL commended the Liberian government for what it described as ongoing efforts to enhance the transport sector, expressing hope for continued cooperation to address challenges faced by riders and drivers alike.

The statement clarifies that M-FOMTUL is not neutral on the issue, but clearly opposes the protest, contrary to some public assumptions.
