Monrovia, Liberia– In an effort to streamline government operations and fast-track development across all sectors, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, held a day-long consultative session with the Ministry of Public Works.
The engagement, described as a strategic initiative to support the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), brought together key stakeholders from both ministries and development partners.
The aim was to cut through bureaucratic delays and boost productivity within Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions (MACs).
Speaking at the opening of the session, Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Ngafuan expressed optimism about the collaboration.
“I am very happy to be here at the epicenter of delivery,” he said, emphasizing the importance of inter-ministerial coordination.
Throughout the nearly eight-hour session, representatives from various divisions and donor-funded projects within the Ministry of Public Works presented updates.
Key highlights included discussions on the World Bank-supported Liberia Urban Resilience Project (LURP), the Infrastructure Implementation Unit (IIU), the African Development Bank-funded Project Implementation Unit, and the National Road Fund.
The focus of the meeting centered on identifying challenges, proposing solutions, and enhancing the effectiveness of the Road Fund and other infrastructure programs.
Public Works Minister Roland Layfette Giddings praised the Finance Ministry’s leadership, describing the “Deep Dive Process” as a timely intervention.
He noted that the initiative will improve administrative efficiency by pinpointing obstacles that often delay the implementation of critical infrastructure projects.
Participants also reviewed the status of major road corridors and assessed progress on both ongoing and upcoming projects.
