The government of Liberia through the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) is calling for inter-agency collaboration to enhance female football in Liberia.
This appeal was made by Assistant Minister for News Media and National Branding, Maylouisa Noel Hill, during the unveiling of Liberia’s first female football logo at the Liberia Football Association (LFA) headquarters in Suakoko, Paynesville City.
During the event over the weekend, Minister Hill praised the LFA for its innovative approach and strategic plan to motivate and promote women’s soccer in the country.
She emphasized that the LFA’s initiative represents a significant commitment to sports development and provides every girl with the opportunity to engage in football.
Hill highlighted the Boakai administration’s dedication to nurturing talent, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring that girls can pursue their passions in various fields, including sports. She identified active citizenship as a key component of national branding, asserting that sports play a vital role in this process.
“We are committed to increasing citizen participation, celebrating talent, and creating a sustainable environment that fosters patriotism,” Hill stated. She reiterated MICAT’s promise to amplify the voices of female athletes, showcase their skills, and inspire future generations.
The Assistant Minister urged all government ministries and agencies to collaborate in promoting a brighter future for women in sports.
“Let’s unite our efforts to create a vibrant community that champions female football and inspires change,” she said, adding that collective action is essential for overcoming negative stereotypes surrounding women in sports in Liberia.
Hill reminded attendees that the promotion and rebranding of women’s soccer can only succeed through the joint efforts of all Liberians.
