Ministry of Gender Launches Training for Revamped 116 Call Center to Combat SGBV

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has initiated a five-day training program for the newly revamped 116 Call Center operators. The center, set to relaunch on December 10, 2024, will be a critical resource in Liberia’s fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Speaking at the program’s ceremony in Monrovia, Deputy Minister of Gender, Atty. Laura Golakeh emphasized the importance of equipping call center agents with the skills to handle sensitive cases effectively.

“This training is more than just a learning experience; it is an opportunity to give back to Liberia. The 116 Call Center is a vital tool in our fight against SGBV, and we rely on your commitment to its success,” Golakeh said.

The 116 Call Center will operate 24/7, offering survivors psychosocial support, legal referrals, and emergency response services. Confidential reporting mechanisms will ensure survivors receive the assistance they need in a secure environment.

The center’s relaunch aligns with the global 16 Days of Activism Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence campaign, reinforcing Liberia’s commitment to ending violence against women and girls.

The Ministry expressed gratitude to its partners for their support in making the initiative possible and called on the public to utilize the service as part of efforts to build a safer and more inclusive society.
