Ministry of Health Launches Phase Two of Mpox Vaccination in Eight Counties

The Ministry of Health, through its Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), has officially launched Phase Two of the Mpox intensive vaccination campaign in eight counties as part of Liberia’s ongoing national response to the Mpox outbreak.

The counties benefiting from the second phase include Montserrado, Nimba, Lofa, Bong, Cape Mount, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, and Grand Bassa.

According to health authorities, this phase of the campaign is specifically designed to protect individuals at highest risk of infection, including contacts of confirmed Mpox cases, frontline health workers, and other identified high-risk groups.

The Ministry explained that vaccination teams will be deployed to communities reporting a rise in Mpox cases.

The exercise will be conducted using a ring vaccination strategy, a targeted public health approach aimed at stopping the spread of the virus.

Under this method, health workers will vaccinate individuals within households where confirmed cases have been recorded, as well as people living in nearby homes and surrounding areas identified as hotspots.

The strategy is intended to quickly interrupt transmission chains and prevent further spread of the disease.

Health officials have emphasized that the vaccination campaign is a critical component of the government’s broader Mpox response, which also includes surveillance, contact tracing, community awareness, and case management.

The Ministry of Health has urged residents in affected counties to cooperate fully with vaccination teams and to continue observing public health guidelines, stressing that community participation is essential to bringing the outbreak under control.

Mpox, a viral disease that can spread through close contact, remains a public health concern in parts of the country.

Authorities say intensified vaccination efforts, especially among high-risk populations, will play a key role in protecting communities and reducing infections nationwide.
