Monrovia, Liberia – In a bold move to promote youth empowerment and strengthen the Liberian media landscape, the Martin K. N. Kollie Foundation (MKNK-F) has launched an L$958,000 scholarship program to train 10 young Liberians in journalism and multimedia production.
“We are here to empower, lift up, and inspire genuine social change,” Kollie stated in a statement.
The program, which offers a fully funded diploma course, will span nine months of in-person academic training followed by a one-year practical internship. Upon completion, two of the top-performing beneficiaries will be selected for advanced training abroad.
The initiative is part of MKNK-F’s broader mission to invest in education, build skills, and foster critical thinking among Liberia’s youth.
“We are inspired to look back and give to our communities, brothers, and sisters,” said Martin K. N. Kollie, the exiled Liberian activist and founder of the Foundation.
According to the Activist, it is not enough to advocate, research, and enlighten, noting that his foundation is also here to empower, lift up, and inspire genuine social change.
“It is not enough to just fight for you through advocacy, research, and enlightenment. We are here to also empower, lift up, and inspire genuine social change,” he added.
Kollie, a prominent voice for justice and transparency in Liberia, emphasized that this initiative complements the Foundation’s ongoing advocacy for accountable governance and access to opportunity.
“Take advantage of this opportunity,” he urged. “This scholarship program is our contribution to the education and professional development of young Liberians, particularly those who aspire to hold power accountable through responsible journalism.”
According to the Foundation, application details and requirements are already available and attached to the official launch announcement. The program is expected to attract applicants from across Liberia, with a focus on merit, potential, and commitment to social impact.
The scholarship is a rare opportunity for aspiring media professionals to gain formal training and hands-on experience in a country where access to quality journalism education remains limited.
