Mockery to the People? Margibi District #4 Representative Faces Questions Over Substandard Bridge

Margibi County — What many residents now describe as a “mockery to the people” has emerged along the road linking the Bensville and Kissi communities in Margibi County, after a bridge that once served as a critical passageway deteriorated into a damaged and unreliable structure.

The bridge, which was constructed in late 2022 at a reported cost of 90,000 Liberian Dollars, has become a subject of frustration for residents who depend on the crossing for transportation, trade, and access to basic services.

Community members say the structure has already sustained significant damage, leaving travelers to navigate a risky and inconvenient route.

On Friday, March 6, 2026, District #4 Representative Emmanuel Yarh visited the area to inspect the deteriorating bridge following repeated complaints from residents of Bensville, Kissi, and surrounding communities.

For many locals, the bridge’s condition raises questions about the durability and quality of the work done only a few years ago. Residents say the structure began showing signs of weakness before eventually suffering major damage in January 2026 after years of regular use by pedestrians.

The damaged crossing has disrupted daily life in the area. Motorcyclists who transport passengers between communities have been forced to slow their operations, while traders say the situation has affected the movement of goods between the two towns.

According to information gathered during the visit, consultations with engineers were expected to conclude Friday, with reconstruction work anticipated to begin as early as Saturday, March 7.

But the question people are now asking is “is the Lawmaker building the same substandard bridge agy?”.

Some residents have described the project as a complete mockery to the people he serves.
