The Ministry of Education has taken a significant step toward reshaping science education in Liberia with the official launch of the “Lab in a Box” Science Kits, an initiative aimed at strengthening hands-on STEM learning for early-grade students.
The launch took place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Paynesville Elementary and Junior High School, where Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah led the ceremony and demonstrated the Ministry’s renewed commitment to practical, discovery-based science instruction for learners in Grades 1–6.
In her remarks, Minister Jallah emphasized that science is not merely an academic subject but a survival skill, calling it the foundation upon which nations build dignity, independence, and long-term prosperity.
She stressed that if Liberia is to reduce dependency and adequately prepare its young people for a rapidly changing world, then strong STEM education must begin in the earliest years of schooling.
The “Lab in a Box” kits are designed to help learners conduct simple experiments, explore scientific concepts, and engage in problem-solving activities that promote curiosity and critical thinking.
According to the Ministry, the kits encourage children “not just to learn what to think, but how to think.”
This innovation aligns with the Government’s ARREST Agenda, which prioritizes progress in Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Sanitation, and Tourism—areas that all depend on a solid scientific and problem-solving foundation.
“With ‘Lab in a Box,’ we are planting seeds of curiosity in classrooms today,” Minister Jallah said, “and nurturing the scientists, engineers, and innovators who will shape Liberia’s tomorrow.”
The Ministry of Education says the rollout of the science kits marks the beginning of a broader national push to make practical STEM learning accessible to every Liberian child, regardless of location or school resources.
