MOE Launches Digital Learning Platform to Boost Literacy and Numeracy Nationwide

By Patrick Teah, Jr.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced the upcoming launch of a nationwide Digital Learning Platform, aimed at strengthening literacy and numeracy skills and expanding access to quality education, particularly for students in remote and underserved communities.

Ahead of the rollout, a high-level MoE delegation held a daylong stakeholders’ engagement in Grand Kru County to ensure community participation and ownership before implementation across all fifteen counties.

In an exclusive interview on January 21, 2026, at Barclayville Central High School, Dr. Salomey Tardy Hackman, Lead on Strategy and Impact at the MoE, explained that the initiative is designed to provide curriculum-based lessons to all schools and learners in Liberia, regardless of location. She said the platform delivers interactive and engaging content through radio, television, and digital access points.

According to the Ministry, the Liberia Learns Radio and Television Program features Liberian teachers, locally developed content, and nationwide broadcasts that promote inclusive learning while encouraging active participation from both parents and teachers.

The program focuses on three learning channels: interactive literacy and numeracy lessons via radio, visual classroom learning through television, and a digital platform that allows students to learn anytime, anywhere.

Dr. Hackman emphasized the critical role of parents in supporting children’s learning, urging them to encourage radio listening, television viewership, and engagement with digital content while limiting exposure to non-educational materials.

She noted that poor performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination is often linked to weak foundational skills rather than senior-level challenges alone and assured that teachers will receive support to strengthen learning outcomes nationwide.

She called on all stakeholders—including parents, teachers, students, and media practitioners—to help raise awareness of the initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing digital innovation in education.

The Liberia Learns Radio and Television Program, led by Minister Dr. Jarso Marley Jallah and supported by the Public Sector Investment Program, seeks to improve foundational literacy and numeracy, promote equitable access to quality education, and expand digital learning opportunities for all students across Liberia.
