As Liberia observes the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Ministry of Education has renewed its pledge to ensure that all schools remain safe and supportive environments for learners, particularly girls.
The international campaign runs from November 25 to December 10, 2025.
In a statement issued through its Girls’ Education Division, the Ministry emphasized that creating secure and respectful learning spaces is central to protecting students’ rights and advancing national development.
This year’s global theme: “Unite! Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls,” underscores the need for stronger prevention efforts across all sectors, including education.
The Ministry noted that safeguarding students from harassment, abuse, and discrimination is essential not only for their wellbeing but also for academic achievement and long-term educational outcomes.
According to the statement, students who feel protected are more likely to stay in school, perform better, and later contribute meaningfully to their communities and the country’s growth.
Officials stressed that the annual 16 Days campaign serves as a reminder that violence must never be allowed to undermine access to education.
They called for collective action to eliminate gender-based violence in schools, noting that the responsibility extends beyond the classroom.
The Ministry emphasized that parents, communities, institutions, and national leaders all play critical roles in ensuring that schools remain safe spaces for every child.
As the campaign continues, the Ministry reiterated its commitment to policies and programs aimed at promoting dignity, equality, and opportunity for all learners across Liberia.
