In a bid to improve education delivery in Liberia, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with UNICEF, donated 30 motorbikes to the country’s Rural Teacher Training Institutes (RTTIs) on March 24, 2025. The donation is aimed at enhancing supervision, monitoring, and operational efficiency at the Zorzor, Kakata, and Webbo RTTIs.
The ceremony, which marked a significant step in strengthening educational services, began with remarks from Hon. Atty. Yekeh Y. Forpka, Deputy Minister for Administration. Forpka reaffirmed the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to advancing education in Liberia and stressed the importance of its partnership with UNICEF in achieving this goal.
UNICEF’s Country Representative, Mr. Andy Brooks, lauded the Ministry for its leadership in improving Liberia’s education sector. He highlighted the importance of teachers in shaping the future of the nation and called for enhanced digital training for educators, as well as increased participation of women in the teaching profession.
Hon. Clifford Konah, Assistant Minister for Teacher Education, also expressed his gratitude to UNICEF for their timely intervention. He emphasized that the motorbikes would be key to increasing productivity at the RTTIs, improving the delivery of teacher training across the country. Konah further assured that the Ministry would continue working to secure additional budgetary support for further improvements in teacher training programs.
In his speech, Hon. Amos A. Fully, Deputy Minister for Instructions, echoed appreciation for UNICEF’s consistent support. He reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to continued collaboration with international partners to enhance the quality of education in Liberia.
Representing the RTTIs, Special Representative Madam Sorna F. Sherif expressed heartfelt thanks to both the Ministry and UNICEF. She pledged that the motorbikes would be put to good use, acknowledging that the donation would significantly ease the challenges faced by teachers in remote areas. Sherif also appealed for further assistance to improve teacher training services.
This initiative highlights the shared commitment of the Ministry of Education and UNICEF to improving educational accessibility and efficiency in Liberia, ensuring that teachers in even the most remote regions receive the support they need to strengthen the country’s education system.
