MOH Discharges Four Recovered Mpox Patients; Frontline workers praised as Liberia continues fight against virus

The Ministry of Health has announced the discharge of four Mpox patients who have fully recovered following treatment at the National Infectious Disease Center (NIDC) in Monrovia.

The patients were released after completing all prescribed treatment and isolation protocols, signaling a hopeful development in Liberia’s efforts to control the spread of Mpox, particularly in urban centers of Montserrado County where recent spikes had been reported.

In response to the rise in cases, the Ministry had earlier activated facility-based case management at the NIDC. The center, which serves as the country’s primary hub for infectious disease response, provides integrated medical, psychosocial, and nutritional support for Mpox patients.

Health authorities expressed gratitude to frontline healthcare workers, county health officers, and community partners for their critical role in managing the outbreak. “Their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication continue to be instrumental in protecting public health and curbing the spread of the virus,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and adhere to precautionary measures to help limit further transmission. Key guidelines include:

Frequent Handwashing: Use soap and clean water or alcohol-based sanitizers regularly.

Avoid Contact: Stay away from individuals showing symptoms such as rashes or fever.

Prompt Reporting: Seek medical attention immediately if you or someone you know displays signs of Mpox.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a swift and coordinated response to the Mpox outbreak and called for continued cooperation from all sectors of society.
