The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Health, has installed a new 60kVA generator at the Government Hospital in Grand Bassa County, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery through a more reliable power supply.
The installation, completed on April 4 in Buchanan, was carried out by Ministry of Health technicians.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry on April 4, the upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance critical infrastructure in public health facilities across the country.
Reliable electricity remains a major challenge for hospitals in many parts of Liberia, often disrupting essential services such as surgeries, laboratory operations, and emergency care.
The new generator is expected to significantly reduce power outages and ensure uninterrupted operations at the facility.
Health authorities said the equipment was procured by the government as part of its broader commitment to improving access to quality healthcare services, particularly in county-level facilities.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health said:
“A brand-new 60kVA generator has been successfully installed today at the Government Hospital in Grand Bassa County… This investment ensures reliable power supply to support uninterrupted, quality healthcare services for our people.”
Medical staffs at the hospital have welcomed the development, noting that stable electricity will enhance patient care and improve working conditions for healthcare professionals.
The Government Hospital in Grand Bassa serves a large population within the county and surrounding areas, making it a vital component of the region’s healthcare system.
The statement revealed that the initiative reflects the government’s continued focus on strengthening the health sector by addressing infrastructure gaps and ensuring that facilities are better equipped to meet the needs of citizens.
The intervention aligns with national health priorities aimed at building a more resilient healthcare system capable of delivering efficient and dependable services.
The Ministry, among other things indicated that similar projects may be extended to other health facilities across Liberia as part of broader sector improvements.
