In a significant move to combat Liberia’s escalating substance use crisis, the Ministry of Health’s (MOH), Mental Health Unit, in partnership with the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) Foundation, conducted a targeted outreach campaign on July 26 along Center Street in Monrovia.
The initiative aimed to engage At-Risk Youth and raise awareness about the government’s national drug treatment program.
The campaign underscored the government’s dedication to providing evidence-based, human rights–centered treatment options for individuals struggling with substance use disorders (SUDs).
Health professionals and counselors were on hand to provide vital information about available services and encourage those affected to seek help through the Ministry’s growing treatment network.
In a compassionate gesture, the MCC Foundation provided hot meals to At-Risk Youth during the outreach, fostering trust and connection with the community.
This initiative is part of a broader partnership between the Ministry and the MCC Foundation to support vulnerable individuals and connect them with formal treatment and rehabilitation services.
Officials speaking during the event reiterated their commitment to collaborating with both public and private stakeholders to scale up prevention, treatment, and reintegration programs.
The strategy emphasizes not only clinical care but also restoring dignity, purpose, and hope to those impacted by substance use.
The joint outreach comes as part of Liberia’s national response to the rising social and public health consequences of drug use, particularly among the country’s youth.
