MOH to Launch Nationwide HPV Vaccination Campaign Tomorrow

The Ministry of Health (MOH) will on Monday, November 17, 2025, launch a Nationwide Multi-Age Cohort Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Campaign, extending across all 15 counties. The effort is part of a national strategy to curb cervical cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women and girls in Liberia.

The official ceremony will be held at the Paynesville Community School (PCS) in Montserrado, where government officials, development partners, community leaders, health workers, parents, and other stakeholders are expected to gather for the launch.

The campaign targets girls aged 9 to 18 and aims to protect them against HPV—the virus responsible for most cases of cervical cancer. According to the MOH, the five-day campaign, running from November 17–21, will be carried out by trained health professionals at various fixed and outreach sites. These include schools, churches, marketplaces, communities, disability and orphanage homes, prison facilities, temporary vaccination points, and designated health centers nationwide.

The ministry says it has partnered with organizations such as Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI); Jhpiego; UNICEF; and the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure that all necessary public health guidelines and safety measures are observed throughout the campaign.

Officials are urging parents, guardians, school authorities, and community members to support the initiative by ensuring that all eligible girls receive the vaccine. They emphasized that HPV vaccination is a critical step in preventing cervical cancer and safeguarding the long-term health of girls across the country.

The MOH reaffirmed its commitment to improving the health and well-being of all Liberians, particularly women and girls.
