Monrovia City Court Jail two  in Connection with Armed Robbery and Assault in Caldwell

Caldwell, Liberia- The Monrovia City Court Stipendiary Magistrate Ben L. Barco has remanded two men charged with multiple offenses in connection with an armed robbery and assault case that took place in the Caldwell community earlier this month.

Joe Kollie, also known as Joe-Dee-Crack, and Melvin Teah, also known as MJ, were arrested on March 15, 2025, following a violent incident that left the victim, Obasi Gabriel, severely injured and deprived of his property.

The crime occurred on March 11, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM when Gabriel was allegedly attacked while riding his motorbike near the Tumps-Up Junction.

According to police investigation, the suspects, allegedly armed with cutlasses, reportedly assaulted Gabriel, causing significant injuries to his head and right shoulder, before making off with his motorbike, a Tecno phone, and a substantial amount of cash—amounting to $830 USD.

Victim Gabriel was allegedly rushed to the Samson Urgent Care Center for medical treatment.Following the incident, Police authorities quickly launched an investigation, and both Kollie and Teah were arrested on suspicion of their involvement in the robbery.

According to police investigators, the suspects voluntarily admitted to the crime, and during their arrest, Kollie was found in possession of the cutlass used in the assault.The investigation revealed that on the evening of the attack, the victim was ambushed by the two men, who struck him with the cutlasses before fleeing the scene.

While fleeing, the suspects abandoned the motorbike as they were pursued by community members.A subsequent search led to the recovery of the stolen motorbike and the weapon used in the crime.

As a result of their actions, Kollie and Teah have been charged with multiple offenses, including Criminal Conspiracy, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder, Armed Robbery, and Theft of Property.

These charges are in violation of various sections of the revised Penal Code of the Republic of Liberia, including Chapters 10, 14, and 15.The defendants have been remanded at the Monrovia Central Prison pending court trial.
