Monrovia Restores Key Bus Routes After Five-Year Break — Citywide Bus Expansion Begins Today

Monrovia’s public transport system is receiving a major upgrade as the National Transit Authority (NTA) officially reopens two long-abandoned bus routes—Route 107 (New Georgia Estate–Broad Street) and Route 108 (Barnersville Estate–Broad Street).

The two high-traffic routes, which were shut down for more than five years, resume full operations today, restoring direct access to central Monrovia for thousands of commuters who have long struggled with limited transportation options.

According to an announcement posted on the NTA’s official website, the restored routes form part of a broader nationwide deployment of the Authority’s newly expanded bus fleet. The move is expected to ease chronic congestion, shorten travel times, and improve reliability across Monrovia and its surrounding communities.

Commuters can also anticipate additional buses on existing routes, a measure the NTA says is designed to reduce overcrowding, especially during peak morning and evening hours.

Transport officials are calling on the public to help protect the new fleet by cooperating with bus crews, respecting safety protocols, and maintaining orderly boarding procedures.

The reopening of Routes 107 and 108 marks a significant stride toward modernizing urban mobility and strengthening public transport services in the capital an improvement many commuters say is long overdue.
