Morlu Accuses Pres. Boakai of Undermining Rule of Law, Calls for Civil Resistance

By: Emmanuel M. Kangar, Jr.

In a fiery public statement ( Facebook ) that has stirred debate across Liberia’s political landscape, Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr., former Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and current leader of the Solidarity And Trust For A New Day (STAND), has accused President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of defying the country’s highest court and abandoning constitutional principles.

Morlu, known for his confrontational rhetoric, warned that President Boakai risks being removed by what he called “the People’s Power” if he continues to lead without adherence to the law. “If Boakai will not lead by law, he will be forced to leave through nonviolent resistance,” Morlu declared in his statement, which has been widely circulated on social media.

He further claimed that recent political developments, including alleged efforts to install a “puppet Speaker” in the Legislature and ignore Supreme Court rulings, amount to a direct attack on Liberia’s democratic institutions. “No blood money, no puppet Speaker, no fake rulings will stop the resistance,” he warned.

Morlu emphasized that any government operating outside the rule of law is illegitimate and signaled potential civil action in response. Referring to Liberia’s painful history, he invoked the memory of those who died for the nation’s democratic freedoms, asserting that no leader has the right to reverse the gains made through decades of struggle.

The Liberian government has yet to respond to Morlu’s accusations. His remarks come at a time of heightened political tension, and observers warn that continued inflammatory language could destabilize the fragile peace if not managed constructively.
