MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has announced revised transportation fares for commuters and passengers, following a recent reduction in gasoline prices.
The new fare structure, developed in collaboration with transport unions and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, will take effect on Monday, December 2, 2024.
The Ministry has pledged to strictly regulate and enforce the updated fares, warning operators against overcharging passengers.
Commuters are encouraged to report violators to the Ministry of Transport, the Liberia National Police (LNP).
The Ministry outlined penalties for operators who fail to comply with the new fare structure:
First Offense: Taxi and Keke (tricycle) operators will be fined US$100, while bus operators will be fined US$200.
Second Offense: Taxi and Keke operators will be fined US$200, and bus operators US$400.
Third Offense: A two-year suspension of the driver’s license will be imposed.
The Ministry has called on the public to cooperate in ensuring adherence to the new regulations, stressing that the measures aim to ease the financial burden on commuters while maintaining fairness in the transport sector.
With these revised fares, the Ministry of Transport is reaffirming its commitment to fostering transparency and accountability in Liberia’s transportation system.
