Monrovia – Public debate is mounting after businessman and political commentator Simeon Freeman flaunted two luxury Richard Mille watches, each reportedly valued at over US$400,000, during a live appearance on OK FM yesterday.
Freeman, who is often outspoken about Liberia’s economic challenges, stunned listeners and social media users when he casually boasted about owning the high-priced timepieces. The revelation quickly went viral, fueling criticism that his display was tone-deaf in a country where the majority of citizens are struggling to make ends meet.
“This is exactly why services like DSTV and other bills are so high in Liberia – the rich brag while the poor suffer,” one caller angrily remarked after the broadcast.
Many Liberians took to Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) to express frustration, contrasting Freeman’s luxury lifestyle with the widespread poverty, unemployment, and rising costs of basic commodities.
While some defended Freeman’s right to spend his earnings as he chooses, others argued that such extravagant displays of wealth highlight the deep inequality between Liberia’s elite and ordinary citizens.
As the debate continues, Freeman himself has not issued any further comment beyond what was said on air.
