MRU Leaders to convene at an emergency tripartite summit in Conakry over emerging territorial disputes

Amid rising territorial tensions between Guinea on one hand and Liberia and Siera Leone on the other, an emergency tripartite Mano River Union (MRU) summit has been scheduled for Monday, March 16, 2026, in Conakry, to discuss and have a dialogue geared towards finding diplomatic resolution.

The four (4) MRU Heads of State to convene in Conakry are:

1) H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, President, Liberia 🇱🇷

2) H.E. Mamadi Doumbouya, President, Guinea 🇬🇳

3) H.E. Julius Maada Bio, President, Sierra Leone 🇸🇱

4) H.E. Alassane Dramane Ouattara, President, Ivory Coast 🇨🇮

Established on October 3, 1973 through the Mano River Declaration, the Mano River Union (MRU) is a subregioinal bloc that was founded to promote peace, unity, economic integration, and solidarity among member States. Liberia and Sierra Leone are founding members (1973). Guinea joined in 1980 while Ivory Coast joined in 2008.
