Barely a month after he was named 2nd Runner-up in the 2024 MTN MoMo Heroes of Change in Liberia, Jarius Greaves has been awarded a prestigious international scholarship. The Liberian youth advocate, known for his change-making efforts, now stands to benefit from pursuing higher education at a master’s level in the United Kingdom.
Jarius Greaves has received a scholarship to pursue an M.Sc. in Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of Sussex, starting in September 2024.
“I CAN’T KEEP CALM! I’ve been chosen for the UK Government’s highly competitive Chevening Scholarship to pursue an MSc in Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of Sussex starting in September 2024!,” was his reaction as posted on his social media page.
In his happy mood, Greaves stated, “With a heart full of gratitude to God, I am deeply honored to receive this life-changing opportunity. The Chevening Scholarship empowers outstanding future leaders from around the globe, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this prestigious community.”
According to reports, Sussex is globally ranked #1 in Development Studies and is a leader in innovation, a place where scholar Jarius Greaves has committed to gain critical skills in entrepreneurship, social business modeling, and leadership. Greaves believes his vision is to use the expected knowledge to transform YONER Liberia, an organization that he heads. He added that this will be used to scale up efforts to empower youth, foster entrepreneurship, and address Liberia’s development challenges.
“This journey is a huge step toward building an entrepreneurial and technology hub in Liberia, which will equip 250,000 young Liberians with the skills to build a brighter future,” he noted.
He also expressed gratitude to the UK Government through its British Embassy in Monrovia for this life-changing opportunity. “Thank you to all who’ve supported me on this incredible path—I can’t wait to take the next leap and contribute to lasting change for Liberia.”
Jarius Andrew Greaves, based in Duport Road, Paynesville, Liberia, is known as a distinguished and internationally recognized youth change-maker, social entrepreneur, and community organizer. He was named 2nd Runner-up in the “Hero of Change, Liberia 2024” and placed 5th in the “Heroes of Change 2023.” Additionally, he received a recognition certificate from the USAID Liberia Development Award in the Youth of the Year category for 2023.
Jarius is the Founder and CEO of YONER Liberia, a social impact nonprofit established 16 years ago, dedicated to youth empowerment, education, entrepreneurship, and tech-based learning initiatives. His leadership and vision have focused on reimagining education and enhancing employability in Liberia. Through his efforts, Jarius has successfully raised and managed approximately US$500,000 in grants, directly impacting over 100,000 young people, including high school and university students, entrepreneurs, and agricultural innovators.
Jarius holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and an Associate of Arts Degree in Management from Stella Maris Polytechnic University in Monrovia. He has been recognized as a Global Top Talent for the SDGs in Liberia by the Global Innovation Lab – UNLEASH, as an Obama Leader in Liberia under the Africa Leaders Program, and as a recipient of the Government of Liberia’s “First National Youth Award” in 2018. Additionally, he is an alumnus of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP, 2017) and the GIST Bootcamp (2016).
Jarius’s commitment to youth development and empowerment has taken him to over 20 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas, where he has shared his expertise and continued his mission to empower young people globally.
